Eugene was born and raised in Saginaw Michigan, the son of Annabelle and Owen Seals. His family teased him saying that he would become a garbage man. But he believed that he had the intelligence and drive to earn his medical degree and become a doctor. In 1990, he proved everyone wrong when he earned his MD. He practiced medicine in his hometown for nearly 30 years becoming an inspiration for countless others.

Joyce Seals was born in Mississippi, but moved north with her family while still young. She formed an inseparable bond with her adopted city of Saginaw where she met her husband in middle school. She graduated college and returned to Saginaw to work in various service capacities including Michigan Works, OIC, and the State of Michigan Department of Education. Joyce served on city council for many years in various capacity including as Mayor. She has operated a summer day camp for over 20 years for local youth that provides academic support, meals, and recreation for thousands of children.
